The Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy again teamed up with the law firm of Keenan, Ciccitto & Associates, LLP, and conducted a canoeing and kayaking adventure down the Perkiomen from the dock in Schwenksville to Hoy Park in Arcola. This was our 13th year of sponsorship of this adventure which included lunch, provided by the Conservancy compliments of Isabelle’s Kitchen, and Cranberry Park in Collegeville was utilized as the perfect half-way point for the meal.
The scenery on this trip is spectacular. An eagle was spotted and herons were watching us as we passed by early in the trip.
The trip has grown in size, so it has become not just a pleasant ride, but an educational one. The Conservancy, at the lunch break, provided information on the organisms that live in the river and many participated in locating them and learning which ones indicate that the river is clean and unpolluted.
The sojourn improves every year. Free transportation is provided from Hoy Park, our take out site, to the Conservancy before the Sojourn, prior to launch. There are canoes and kayaks for rent. There is a safety instruction and the day before the event, the Conservancy makes a river run to ensure there are no obstructions.
The sojourn was held Saturday, June 1, 2019. This year broke all records for participation. Over 150 persons kayaked and canoed down the Perkiomen and another 50 participated to assist anyone in need of assistance.
